I'll get straight to it. Not every oil is safe to use during pregnancy. During this time, Mother Nature is doing everything she can to protect the baby. This is why certain toxins and chemicals cause women to be overly sensitive to certain smells. A pregnant woman's heightened sense of smell helps avoid things that could potentially harm her baby. This is important to remember especially during the first trimester as baby's organs develop and the risk to injury is greater. The fetus is more vulnerable so it is best to avoid certain oils when possible. Below are some oils to avoid during the first trimester.

As your body changes throughout each trimester, your ability to tolerate certain smells change. Some oils do not pose a risk to you or the fetus as your body matures during gestation.
Here are some oils that are okay to use throughout your entire pregnancy.

Some essential oils may cause early contractions leading to pre-term births. It is important to make sure if you are incorporating oils into your pregnancy lifestyle without the proper education what the side effects may include. I advise doing your own research or speaking to a holistic physician who may be able to provide you more information.
